Named for a single bright star, from the winery built around a Korean resistance poet's verse.
Grape varietal & region: Cheongsu, a Korean-bred white hybrid grape, grown on volcanic granite-and-basalt soil ("Macbanseok") in 264 Chungpodo Winery's vineyards near Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea. The winery takes its name and identity from Yi Yuksa, one of Korea's best-known resistance poets, born in Dosan-myeon, Andong; his poem "Cheongpodo" ("Green Grapes"), which romanticises the beauty and resilience of the fruit, inspired the winery's name, and its flagship wines are each named after his works. Hanbyul (한별, "one bright star") is the estate's best seller.
Taste profile: built for freshness and purity rather than richness — with no oak and no malolactic fermentation, expect vibrant acidity, clean fruit character and the mineral edge the estate's volcanic soils are known for. As the importer puts it: "the delicate sparkle of a star captured in a glass."
Winemaking process: a two-stage, entirely stainless-steel process — whole clusters are crushed and fermented on skins for 10 days to extract colour and structure, then transferred to stainless steel for a further 35 days of temperature-controlled fermentation (20 degrees C), followed by 6 months of ageing. No oak, no malolactic fermentation — a deliberate choice to keep the wine's acidity and fruit as unfiltered by winemaking technique as possible.
Winemaker: 264 Chungpodo Winery began as a collaboration between local farmers to cultivate the Cheongsu grape and preserve its natural character through minimal intervention. The name "264" refers to Yi Yuksa himself — the prisoner number he was assigned during his imprisonment for resistance activity against Japanese colonial rule, which he later adopted, phonetically, as his pen name. It's a striking piece of literary history for the winery to carry into its branding and its wines' names.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.Â
