The native style of white wine from the Basque region is Txakoli. A large majority of Txakoli wines are white, with some rare red wines. Txakoli white wines are light and refreshing, with flavors of green apple and pear. Due to the minerality in the wines, as well as traditional winemaking techniques, the wines are often slightly effervescent. They are often served as an aperitif and are well-suited to pairing with seafood.
