Turkey
Turkey has a diverse climate and terroir, which makes it an ideal place for winemaking. Most vineyards are located in the Marmara, Aegean, and Southeastern Anatolia regions. The Aegean region is home to some of the best-known wine regions in Turkey, including Çeşme, Urla, and Bozcaada.
The typical styles of wine found in Turkey include red, white, and rosé. Among the most popular grapes for red wine are Öküzgözü and Boğazkere, which are often blended together to create a rich and flavorful wine. For white wine, the indigenous Narince and Emir grapes are widely used and produce crisp, refreshing wines with a citrusy flavor.
One of the most famous wine regions in Turkey is Cappadocia, where winemakers produce high-quality wines from the native red grape variety, Calkarasi. These wines are known for their deep color, intense aroma, and rich flavor.
Another well-known Turkish wine region is Thrace, where Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah grapes are used to make complex and full-bodied red wines.
In addition to the traditional styles of wine, Turkish winemakers are also experimenting with natural and biodynamic winemaking methods. This has led to the production of unique wines that are both organic and eco-friendly.
