Carricante
Carricante, the grape of fire, produces crisp and mineral-driven wines from the volcanic soils of Mount Etna, showcasing the unique terroir of Sicily
Varietal origin: Carricante is believed to have originated in the Etna region of Sicily, where it has been cultivated for centuries. It is predominantly grown on the slopes of Mount Etna, an active volcano, where the volcanic soils and cool climate provide ideal conditions for this grape varietal to thrive.
Typical taste profiles: Carricante wines are typically characterized by their bright acidity, fresh citrus flavors, and pronounced minerality. They often exhibit notes of lemon, green apple, and floral undertones. Carricante wines are known for their zesty and refreshing profile, with a lively acidity that makes them excellent as both standalone wines and for pairing with seafood and light dishes.
Regional styles: Carricante is primarily used to produce dry white wines, although there are some examples of semi-sweet and sparkling wines made from this grape varietal. The wines are typically unoaked, allowing the natural flavors and minerality of the grape to shine through. Carricante is also sometimes blended with other local grape varieties such as Catarratto and Minella Bianca to add complexity and balance to the wines
