Daiginjo status means the rice is polished down to just half its original size, stripping away everything but the purest starch at its core — the highest, most painstaking classification in sake brewing, built for maximum elegance and clarity.
Of the three wells on the brewery property, Kikkawa Jozo draws for brewing from the one with the highest mineral content — an unusual choice among sake breweries, most of which prize exceptionally soft water, but one that contributes to the house's beautifully crisp style. The brewery blends traditional methods like hako-koji production with modern equipment, and its five full-time brewers, all younger than the industry average, represent a new generation of sake artisans.
Silky and round, elegantly layered and balanced — approachable enough for a wide range of cuisine, refined enough for the seasoned sake drinker.

Established in 1912, Kikkawa Jozo is located at the foot of Tanzawa Oyama, historically known as “Afuri-yama” (meaning “Rainy Mountain”) because of its heavy annual rainfall. The Shrine is also known to house the “God of Sake”

Junmai Daiginjo Sake is brewed using only rice, water, yeast and koji. There are no other additives. To qualify as a Daiginjo, the rice grain must be milled to 50% or less of it’s original size

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
