Regional History & Terroir: The Imereti region has a long history of winemaking, dating back over 8,000 years. The region has a humid, subtropical climate, with heavy rainfall in the spring and summer. The terroir is characterized by limestone and clay soils, and the region's hilly terrain provides a range of altitudes for grape cultivation.
Typical Grape Varietals: The region is known for growing the indigenous grape varietals Tsitska and Tsolikouri for white wines, as well as Otskhanuri Sapere and Saperavi for red wines.
Regional Wine Styles: The Imereti region is best known for its white wines, which are made using traditional winemaking techniques such as fermentation in clay vessels called qvevri. These wines are often characterized by their natural acidity, complex flavors, and long aging potential.
