Clai "Ottocento Crni" Red 2018
Old Istrian vines, macerated for a month at the mercy of native yeasts.
Grape Varietals & Region: A blend of Merlot and Refosco from vines aged 10 to 25 years, grown on Istria's prized white soils on Croatia's Adriatic coast.
Taste Profile: Rich and complex, with dark fruit, blackberries, plums and a touch of spice. Medium to full-bodied, with velvety tannins and balanced acidity through a long, satisfying finish.
Winemaking Process: Handpicked grapes are destemmed and gravity-fed into large wooden barrels for around a month of maceration, starting at 30°C with natural yeasts and mixed three times daily, undergoing malolactic fermentation during this period. After pressing, the wine ages at least two years in large oak barrels.
Winemaker: Giorgio Clai grew up in a family that had farmed vines in Istria before being displaced to Trieste, where he spent years in the hospitality industry before returning to his roots. He founded his winery in 2001 in Krasica, near Buje in Croatian Istria, inspired by the natural wines of Italy's nearby Collio region, farming without chemicals or pesticides under organic and biodynamic principles. His skin-contact whites have made him recognised as a pioneer of the modern orange wine movement.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
