Chaffey Bros “Kontrapunkt” Eden Valley Kerner 2016
A little different and undeniably delightful — Australia's (and the Southern Hemisphere's) only 100% varietal Kerner.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Kerner — a 1929 cross of Riesling and Vernatsch — from the Fechner Bros' vineyard in the Northern Eden Valley. Graeme and Michael Fechner brought cuttings to their vineyard in 2001 after a research trip to Germany; the vines grow through clay into limestone bedrock on an east-facing slope beside a limestone quarry, with a prevailing breeze keeping the site dry enough for a light-handed approach to disease control.
Taste Profile: Translucent pale yellow colour. Grapefruit, citrus rind, white peach and pear aromas with a herbaceous complexity. Light, clean and crisp, with surprising length and high acidity — bitter grapefruit zest, white stone fruit and chalky minerality closing in a honeyed finish.
Winemaking Process: Hand-picked, then whole-bunch pressed for gentle skin contact only. Fermented on gross solids in a temperature-controlled stainless steel fermenter, using a combination of indigenous and selected yeasts to protect delicate aromas. No fining or filtering, making it naturally vegan.
Winemaker: Chaffey Bros Wine Co was founded in 2008 by Eden Valley-born Daniel Chaffey Hartwig, soon joined by brother-in-law Theo Engela. The name nods to the original Chaffey brothers — Canadian hydro engineers who arrived in Australia in 1886 and helped shape the country's early irrigation and wine industry. Barossa born and bred, Hartwig spent 11 years as a wine consultant to some of Australia's leading winemakers before striking out on his own, and today runs the winery with Engela, blending a shared passion for perfumery, history and innovative winemaking into low-yield Barossa and Eden Valley fruit.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
