Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Spätlese #10 2023
Known to Schaefer amateurs as the firm, stony one — from a family whose Graach roots go back five hundred years.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Riesling sourced from Graacher Domprobst, which rises steeply directly above the village of Graach at 120–260 metres above sea level. The vineyard’s name comes from the Trier Cathedral Provost, once owed a third of the tithes of wine from Graach. Its south-southwest exposure gives it plenty of sunlight and shelter from cold winds, while stony, argillaceous slate soils warm evenly to ripen the fruit fully.
Taste Profile: A mineral, flinty bouquet with fruity pear and apple notes. The juicy palate carries concentrated flavours of dried apricot, honeyed green apple, white pear, and hints of wet stones and almonds. Well-structured, with bright acidity and delicate sweetness closing in an intense, saline finish — built for the cellar, with real ageing potential.
Winemaking Process: Hand-harvested, gently pressed whole-cluster, then spontaneously fermented and aged in large old Fuder barrels.
Winemaker: The Schaefer family has tended vines in Graach since the 12th century, with records dating to 1590. Willi and Martha Schaefer founded the estate in its modern form after the Second World War, and Willi took over winemaking in 1971, building its reputation for pure, precise Mosel Riesling. In 2015 he handed the reins fully to his son Christoph, who now runs the estate’s 4.2 hectares — spread across the steep slopes of Domprobst, Himmelreich and Wehlener Sonnenuhr — together with his wife Andrea.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
