Hans-Joseph "HaJo" Becker has been making Riesling exactly the way he wants since 1971 — cultural trends be damned.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Riesling from the Walkenberg site in Walluf, Rheingau — a VDP.Grosse Lage (Grand Cru-equivalent), classified among Germany's top vineyard sites. The estate's 13 hectares sit almost entirely within this one south-facing slope, planted 75% Riesling and 25% Pinot Noir.
Taste Profile: Bone-dry and precise, with lemon-lime and green apple up front, jasmine and honeycomb layered underneath, and the kind of taut, mineral-driven acidity Walkenberg is known for. Pairs well with aburi salmon sushi or a pork jowl rice bowl.
Winemaking Process: Grapes are selectively hand-picked, fermented with the vineyard's own wild yeasts, then aged nearly a year on the lees in traditional large Rheingau oak casks (Stückfässer) before a gentle filtration and bottling.
Winemaker: J.B. Becker was founded in 1893 by cooper Jean Baptist Becker and has stayed in family hands for over 125 years. Third-generation winemaker Hans-Joseph Becker took over in 1971 and made bone-dry Riesling his focus decades before "trocken" became fashionable — sticking with old vines, massal selection over clones, and organic farming since long before the estate was formally certified in 2008.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
