Blaufränkisch off Eisenberg's iron-rich green schist, from a family that's been in the wine trade since the early 1900s.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Blaufränkisch from the Ried Reihburg vineyard on the Eisenberg, in Austria's Südburgenland near the Hungarian border — iron-rich green schist soil that gives Eisenberg Blaufränkisch its distinctive spicy minerality. Weinhof Szemes has been a family business since the early 1900s, evolving from wine merchant to négociant to estate winemaker; siblings Anna and Oscar Szemes now run the domaine with a focus on freshness and site transparency over heavy extraction.
Taste Profile: Dark ruby red with violet reflections; sour cherry, red berries and delicate spice on the nose, with the precision and expressiveness typical of top Eisenberg Blaufränkisch. Dry and structured without heaviness — 13.5% ABV keeps it food-friendly rather than jammy.
Winemaking Process: Hand-selected grapes, harvested in early October, gently fermented in wooden barrels and aged in large old barrels — some up to 70 years old, built by the Szemes family's grandfather. New wood is used only sparingly, in small 500-litre barrels, keeping oak influence firmly in the background. 14 days skin contact, fermented in wooden vats, aged 1.5 years in large oak casks, followed by 1 year in stainless steel tanks.
Winemaker: Anna and Oscar Szemes represent the latest generation of a family that's worked in wine — as merchants, négociants, and now growers — since the turn of the 20th century. Their winemaking is deliberately traditional and simple: minimal new oak, big old barrels, and a constant focus on letting Eisenberg's green schist speak through the Blaufränkisch rather than covering it up.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
