The deepest maceration in Raina's range — 8 days on the skins turns Trebbiano into something closer to a light red than a white.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Trebbiano, from south-east-facing guyot vines at 220m in Montefalco, Umbria, harvested later in October than its Peschiera Bianco sibling. Same grape, same estate, deliberately different treatment.
Taste Profile: Eight days on the skins — more than double the Peschiera Bianco's — gives this the deepest colour and most savoury, tannic grip of Raina's white range. Expect dried orchard fruit, nutty, saline notes and real structure; this drinks more like a light red than a conventional white.
Winemaking Process: Hand-harvested in October, macerated on the skins for 8 days in stainless steel, fermented with indigenous yeast, then aged 7 months in stainless steel on fine lees before 3 months in bottle. Unfined and unfiltered; serve around 12°C, cellar-cool rather than fridge-cold.
Winemaker: Francesco Mariani is a chef as well as a vine grower, farming in Montefalco, Umbria alongside his friend and assistant Andrea Mattioli since 2002. Raina takes its name from the nickname of the previous owner of the field where they planted their first Sagrantino vines — a way of keeping the land's history tied to the wine. Ten hectares, farmed biodynamically between 220 and 300 metres above sea level, grow Sagrantino, Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Merlot, Syrah, Grechetto and Trebbiano Spoletino. In 2022 the estate left the DOC system altogether, choosing to bottle everything as IGT Umbria instead.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
