Marques de Tomares Rioja Gran Reserva 2016
A Centenaria Rioja winery respecting traditions in cellar aging their wines. With a family grape growing history since 1886, Don Román Montaña founded the winery Marqués de Tomares in 1910, and it is still operated by his grandchildren who continue to maintain the wineries tradition both in the winery and in the estate’s vineyards.
With nearly 106 hectares of family-owned vineyards, many of which more than 100 years old, spotted throughout Rioja Alta in Haro, Fuenmayor and the surrounding areas, careful viticulture and longtime partnerships with local farmers lend to the precise identity of Marqués de Tomares.
Taste Profile: Aromas of leather, spice, rustic graphite and crusty bread. It has a creamy red fruit on palate with moderate acid, and good grip. The tannins are rustic but clearly polished by time in the bottle. This is a really good, complex bottle of Riserva Rioja.
This is what an old-fashion Rioja was imagined to be like in the1950-60’s, and this bottle should age for a long time.
Grape Varietals & Region: A beautiful blend of Tempranillo, Graciano, with Viura. Handpicked from Fuenmayor, Rioja Alta. Clay-ferrous soils
Winemaking Process: The grapes were destemmed and underwent spontaneous fermentation with twice-daily pump-overs favored over punch-downs to retain freshness. Viura is co-fermented with Mazuelo and Graciano. 100% de-stemmed grapes. Fermentation under controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. 30 months in 90% French and 10% American oak and minimally 36 months in bottle.
The winery is still releasing small amounts of Reserva and Gran Reserva wines in various formats from time to time. So now you know how precious these bottles can be.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
