Domaine Nakajima "Table Wine" Rouge 2025
A red blend from a winemaker working out of the basement of his own house, 850 metres up in the mountains of Nagano.
Grape varietal & region: a red blend drawn from Domaine Nakajima's own estate varieties — principally Cabernet Franc and Merlot, the backbone of Yutaka Nakajima's original plantings, with Pinot Noir added to the vineyard from 2019 onward. The vines sit on a south-facing hillside at around 850 metres above sea level in Tomi, in Nagano's Chikumagawa Wine Valley. No cuvee-specific blend percentage is published for this Table Wine bottling, so treat the varietal mix as informed by Nakajima's known plantings rather than a confirmed spec.
Taste profile: Nakajima's reds run pale, light and precise rather than dense — expect red cherry, a touch of blood-orange savouriness, fine herby notes and real freshness, the kind of wine built to drink with a slight chill rather than cellar for years. A "table wine" in the most literal sense: unpretentious, food-first drinking.
Winemaking process: natural throughout — wild yeast fermentation, hand-built equipment (Nakajima uses a home-made destemmer and crusher), and minimal sulphites added only at bottling, at a low 15ppm.
Winemaker: Yutaka Nakajima discovered wine while training as a chef, developed a strong affection for Alsace, and worked vintages in the Loire and Baden, Germany, before planting his own vineyard in Tomi in 2011 and opening his small winery in 2014. He farms organically, growing his plantings from an initial base of Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc and Merlot into a small but expanding roster that now includes Pinot Gris, with Savagnin, Poulsard and Trousseau planted on newly acquired land — a distinctly Jura-inflected direction for a winemaker working in the Japanese mountains.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
