Domaine Josmeyer Riesling "Le Kottabe" 2021
Le Kottabe was imagined and created by Jean MEYER in 1986. The name, from the Greek "O Kottabos", was a game of skill, mixing wine and love. It was practiced in Greece during banquets in the 5th century BC. At the same time, the verticality of the consonants recalls the slender and assertive character of this grape variety.
Grape Varietal & Region: 100% Riesling from Alsace, France
Situated near Colmar, the Domain benefits from an exceptional micro-climate and one of the lowest annual rainfall in the whole of France. The Domain extends to some 28 hectares and has always been cultivated with respect for nature. Towards the end of the nineties, the vineyards were turned over to fully organic (certified in 2004) and biodynamic culture.
Taste Profile: Dry and balanced, this Riesling opens with citrus notes. The palate is lively with a beautiful structure and ends on a long and lemony finish
Winemaking Process: The grapes themselves are hand-picked and are not de-stemmed, and the fermentation comes from only indigenous yeasts found naturally on the grapes. The wine ferments & matures in old oak barrels, where they age on lees
