Château Fonbadet Pauillac 2005
Two decades in the bottle and still unfolding — a legend-vintage Pauillac from one of the Médoc's most underrated estates.
Grape Varietals & Region: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot and Malbec, from the Pauillac AOC, Médoc, Bordeaux, France. The vines are planted on a high gravelly plateau, with an average age of 50 to 60 years, producing wines of exceptional concentration and complexity. The vineyard is divided across three sections — parcels in the north of Pauillac near Mouton Rothschild, further south close to Pichon Baron, and in the centre of the appellation — all in illustrious company. 2005 is listed among the best vintages of Château Fonbadet, and widely regarded as one of the finest Bordeaux vintages of the modern era.
Taste Profile: Blackcurrant, blackberries, and black cherries on the first nose, then notes of brioche, toast, and espresso on aeration. The palate is dense, with a very seductive, coated tannic structure. The freshness of the Cabernet Sauvignon gives length to the assembly, leaving lingering notes of black fruit on the finish. Rich and rather floral, with sweet fruit and good, subtle toasty oak — very full-bodied and unabashedly vigorous, with fine-grained tannins that have had twenty years to integrate beautifully. Decant for at least one hour; now approaching its peak drinking window through 2030.
Winemaking Process: Aged in 100% new French oak barrels — an uncompromising commitment to quality that is rare among unclassified estates. The excellent position of the vineyard, combined with high-quality vinification, results in an intense, concentrated, deeply coloured, perfectly balanced wine. For certain vintages, Château Fonbadet is able to surpass many Crus Classés — and the 2005 is one such vintage

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
