Alvaro Palacios "Finca Dofí" 2021
A ninth child from a Rioja winemaking family, trained at Pétrus, who bet everything on a nearly-abandoned corner of Spain everyone else had written off.
Grape Varietals & Region: Palacios acquired Finca Dofí, a single vineyard on Priorat's characteristic llicorella (slate) terraces, in 1990. The wine is a blend led by Garnacha, backed by Cariñena and Syrah, grown on the same steep, mineral-poor slopes that made Priorat one of Spain's most important wine regions before phylloxera nearly wiped it out entirely.
Taste Profile: Muscular tannins support ripe flavours of plum, currant and fig, while tangy acidity keeps the wine lively and focused. Black olive, dark chocolate, pine and loamy earth add interest to this brooding, balanced wine — tight and fine-grained, with a compressed mouthfeel, real length and an almost ethereal structure.
Winemaking Process: Hand-harvested from Priorat's steep llicorella terraces, too steep for machines, then fermented and aged around 13 to 18 months in the restrained, non-interventionist style Palacios has favoured since he first arrived in the region.
Winemaker: Alvaro Palacios grew up in Rioja, where his family makes wine under the Palacios Remondo name — one of nine children, he studied oenology in Bordeaux while working under Jean-Pierre Moueix at Château Pétrus. Rather than return to the security of the family estate, he was drawn to Priorat, then a nearly abandoned pre-phylloxera region 60 miles from Barcelona, convinced its steep terraces and llicorella soils could produce something that stood alongside Pétrus and Grange. He's since grown his holdings into a range of single-vineyard and blended Priorat wines — Finca Dofí is the single-vineyard bottling, while Gratallops, Les Terrasses and Camins del Priorat blend fruit across multiple sites.

Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
