A count's name on the label, a 16th-century royal vineyard behind it — Ribera del Duero with real pedigree.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Tempranillo, from the historic Pago de Valdestremero estate near Peñafiel, on Ribera del Duero's so-called "Golden Mile." The 80-hectare property spans seven different soil types and microclimates — sandy-loam, limestone-loam, clay, loam layered with marl, sandy-clay, chalky-clay and river alluvial soils — with vines aged between 15 and 35 years. The vineyard's roots run deep: it was already renowned in the 16th century, when its wine was served at the court of King Philip II in Valladolid.
Taste Profile: Clean and bright in the glass, with an intense, deep and persistent nose. Fresh and lively, driven by berry and plum fruit, it turns round and velvety on the palate, with well-balanced acidity and a smooth touch of oak.
Winemaking Process: Grapes are carefully classified on the selection table, then passed through a low-revolution destemmer before being moved by gravity into 22,500kg fermentation tanks. Cold maceration at 8°C for 3–5 days precedes alcoholic fermentation, which runs 9–12 days at 20–24°C, followed by a long extended maceration of the solids for 15–20 days. The wine then ages 10–12 months in French oak barrels from a mix of coopers, at a subtle to medium toast level.
Winemaker: Bodega Conde de San Cristóbal was founded in the early 20th century by the De la Mata family — also owners of Bodegas Marqués de Vargas in Rioja — who named it in honour of their grandfather Pelayo, 8th Count of San Cristóbal. The estate remains family-run today, headed by Don Pelayo de la Mata, IX Count of San Cristóbal, continuing a line that traces back to Julián de San Cristóbal y Eguiarreta, judge of the Royal Appellate Court of Valladolid.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
