Stift Gœttweig "Ried Silberbichl" Riesling 2019
A premier cru Riesling that used to be made by monks.
Grape Varietals & Region: Riesling from the Silberbichl cru, a wide terrace above the Danube meadow on the south bank opposite Krems, Kremstal, Austria, at 449 metres above sea level. The soil consists of old Danube gravel and weathered rock covered with loess; "Silber" likely comes from the mica in the soil that gives a silvery shine to the larger pieces found in the vineyard, while "Bichl" is a dialect variation of "Bühel" (hill). The southeast-facing cru carries 6.34 hectares planted to Riesling.
Taste Profile: Fruity aromas of white peach, pear and fresh citrus on the nose. Intense and luscious in the mouth, with mineral, lemon, green apple and stone fruit followed by a structured, long finish that leaves you wanting more.
Winemaking Process: After harvest, grapes are destemmed and strictly selected to use only the very best fruit, followed by 6 hours of maceration. After 7 months of contact with fine lees in stainless steel tanks, the wine is bottled.
Winemaker: Stift Göttweig traces its roots to 1083, when Bishop Altmann of Passau founded a Benedictine monastery on the summit of the Göttweiger Berg, on the eastern edge of the Wachau's Danube valley opposite Krems; the abbey has grown wine on the site for over 900 years, its wines already prized by Austrian nobility by the 16th century. Winegrower Fritz Miesbauer took over the estate's 26 hectares in 2006 and has since brought Stift Göttweig into the top league of Austrian producers, earning Falstaff Winemaker of the Year in 2020 for his uncompromising pursuit of quality across the estate's prime sites of Gottschelle, Silberbichl and Pfaffenberg.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
