Château Doisy-Daëne "L'Extravagant" Sauvignon Blanc 2015
A 100% Sauvignon Blanc sweet wine from a region built on Sémillon — made only in the vintages that earn it, and only three barrels at a time.
Doisy-Daëne's regular lineup runs from a classic Sauternes through to the distinguished dry white Grand Vin Sec. L'Extravagant sits apart from both — a cuvée made only in the estate's great vintages, in tiny volumes, and built for unmatched richness.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Sauvignon Blanc from Château Doisy-Daëne, a Second Growth of the 1855 Sauternes classification located in Barsac. The estate has been in the Dubourdieu family since 1924, across three generations — Georges, then Pierre, then Denis — each one pushing sweet Bordeaux further from its traditionally oxidative, heavy style toward something fresher and more precise.
Taste Profile: Elegant, reticent nose of lemon jelly, melon and saffron. Extremely rich and concentrated on the palate, with a viscous mouthfeel and pure, fresh citrus and sweet spice flavours running underneath the sweetness. Residual sugar sits around 204g/l against 9g/l total acidity — racy for something this rich, though it lacks the extra weight a splash of Sémillon would normally bring.
Winemaking Process: Made only when botrytis and the season cooperate, from hand-selected, successive passes through the vineyard. In 2015, that meant just three barriques of finished wine — a fraction of what the estate's regular Sauternes produces in the same vintage.
Winemaker: Denis Dubourdieu took over from his father Pierre in 2000, continuing three generations of Dubourdieu winemaking at Doisy-Daëne that began with his grandfather Georges in 1924. A professor of oenology at the University of Bordeaux as well as a winemaker, Denis spent his career refining the estate's sweet wines toward a cleaner, more mineral style with minimal oak — the opposite of the soft, oxidative Sauternes his grandfather's generation made. He passed away in July 2016, a year after this vintage; his sons Jean-Jacques and Fabrice Dubourdieu now carry the family's estates forward.

Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
