Thorne & Daughters Copper Pot Pinot Noir 2023
An honest, unfiltered expression of the Overberg's cool, quartz-and-shale soils.
Grape Varietals & Region: Pinot Noir sourced from a handful of vineyards in South Africa's Overberg region, where clay/shale and quartz/sandstone soils and cool growing conditions combine to produce rich, perfumed fruit, with a small parcel also sourced from the Bottelary Hills on decomposed granite.
Taste Profile: Bright pomegranate, hibiscus and red currant aromas, with underlying exotic wood and juniper notes. Fine tannin and good acidity balanced by generous red fruit and citrus zest, finishing dry with a touch of nutmeg spice and earthiness.
Winemaking Process: Fermented using wild yeast with minimal additives — just some sulphur dioxide at crush and during maturation. 40–60% whole clusters bring natural structure and savouriness, with gentle extraction via pump-overs and punchdowns over about 30 days on skins. Matured 9 months in a mix of older, small French oak barrels to avoid a dominant oak character.
Winemaker: Thorne & Daughters was founded in 2012 by John and Tasha Seccombe. John discovered wine as a student wine waiter in Stellenbosch, then studied winemaking at Plumpton College in England before working vintages in France, England, Thelema and Iona — eventually returning to South Africa to launch his own project with Tasha. The estate's wines are named after children's toys, and John was inducted into the Cape Winemakers Guild in 2024.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
