Meyer-Näkel "Illusion" Blanc de Noirs 2022
A wine that's kind of defying norms, without breaking laws.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Pinot Noir from Ahr, Germany. The secret of Ahr wines lies in a perfect microclimate created by the region's geology: steep, south-facing vineyards offer optimal sun exposure, while predominant weathered soils of slate and greywacke warm easily and store heat. The narrow valley, sheltered by the Eifel mountains, heats up quickly to give the vines an ideal habitat.
Taste Profile: Rich in nuances, with a play of aromas of pear, apple, yellow peach and an elegant minerality. Partial malolactic fermentation softens the acid slightly and allows the melty aromas to develop.
Winemaking Process: Blanc de Noir (French for "white from black") describes a white wine made from red grape varieties. Grapes are picked by hand and carefully transported to the winery in small boxes, then pressed as whole bunches, unstemmed and unmashed, the same way Champagne base wine is made — gentle pressure extracts only the bright, clear juice inside the berry. The must is fermented cool like a white wine in stainless steel tanks (a small percentage in barriques) and then undergoes malolactic fermentation, resting on fine yeast for several weeks before bottling after around 6 months.
Winemaker: The estate takes its name from the 1950 marriage of grandparents Paula Meyer and Willibald Näkel, who farmed just 1.5 hectares but made a name for themselves through Willibald's dry red wines — pioneering work at a time when German wine was reflexively sweet. Werner Näkel took over in the 1980s and became one of Germany's most important vintners, and today the winery is run by third-generation sisters Meike and Dörte, alongside their parents Werner and Claudia Näkel, bringing a fresh take to the Ahr's slate soils and Pinot Noir.

The name of the wine estate goes back to the marriage of grandparents Paula Meyer and Willibald Näkel in 1950. Like many wineries in the Ahr, Meyer-Näkel focuses mainly on Pinot Noir (or as it’s known locally, Spätburgunder).

Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
