Sudosan Winery Krate Red Dry
Korea's answer to Amarone — made not from grapes you'd recognise, but from wild mountain sanmeoru, dried and aged three years in oak.
Grape varietal & region: 100% sanmeoru (Vitis amurensis), a wild Korean mountain grape — smaller-berried and thicker-skinned than standard wine grapes, prized for its mineral intensity and high polyphenol and anthocyanin content — grown organically in the volcanic soils of Gimcheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea.
Taste profile: no cuvee-specific tasting note is published, so treat the following as informed by the Amarone-style method rather than confirmed: concentrated dark fruit, real mineral intensity from both the grape and the volcanic soil, and firm structure from three-plus years in oak — a serious, age-worthy wine built to reward patience. The estate's Kraté label has reportedly been served at South Korea's presidential residence at diplomatic functions.
Winemaking process: an Amarone-style method — late-harvested sanmeoru grapes are dried before fermentation to concentrate sugar and flavour, then aged over three years in oak barrels.
Winemaker: Sudosan built its identity around sanmeoru specifically because it's a genuinely native Korean grape rather than an imported vinifera variety — the "Krate" name nods to the region's volcanic crater geology, tying the wine directly to the land it comes from rather than to any imported winemaking tradition.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
