In 1671 the first van Niekerk set foot in the Cape of Good Hope. Cornelis van Niekerk, an 11-year-old Dutch boy, arrived with nothing more than the clothes on his back.
Years later, now a prosperous farmer, Cornelis and eight others took a stance against the Cape’s corrupt governor by refusing to sell their wine to the dishonest regime. Instead, they sold directly to passing ships at a much fairer price. This landed them in a Mauritian jail where Cornelis passed away - unjustly branded as one of “The 9 Rebellious Vrijboeren”.
His two sons picked up the pieces & through them the van Niekerk family legacy continued.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Grenache from the Bot River in South Africa.
Grapes were sourced from two neighbouring farms on the Swart River road just outside of Botriver. The first pick was from a new block on a farm called Nabot and the second pick from the dryland bush vine block on the Anysbos farm.
Taste Profile: Red cherry, cranberry and raspberry plus subtle notes of orange, fynbos, musk and earth on the nose. The palate is not too fragile but still remarkably poised - good fruit expression, fresh acidity and powdery tannins
Winemaking Process: 45% Whole-bunch naturally fermented Grenache Noir matured in old oak barrels for 10 months before bottling

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
