The only Assyrtiko grown in Australia, imported from Santorini after one holiday convinced a winemaker it belonged in the Clare Valley.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Assyrtiko, a grape native to the Greek island of Santorini, planted at the Barry family's Lodge Hill Vineyard in the Clare Valley, South Australia — the first and still only planting of the variety in the country. Peter Barry imported the cuttings through Australian quarantine in 2006 and planted them at Lodge Hill in August 2012, on a site he considered special enough to suit an unproven variety.
Taste Profile: A vibrant pale straw colour in the glass. Lifted floral aromas open the nose, followed by notes of pear and lime. Great flavour concentration runs through the palate, carried by a flinty streak of minerality, while crisp, refreshing acidity keeps the wine lively. It finishes with a fine, chalky texture and good length.
Winemaking Process: Fermented in stainless steel to preserve the variety's natural crispness and mineral character.
Winemaker: "I first tasted Assyrtiko in August 2006 while on holiday with my wife Sue on the Greek island of Santorini, birthplace of the Assyrtiko grape variety," says Peter Barry, third-generation family winemaker at Jim Barry Wines. "The crisp, acidic qualities reminded me of our Clare Valley Rieslings and yet it was a flavour I had not experienced before. Intrigued with this newfound variety, I began the process of importing cuttings into Australia through quarantine. In August 2012 we planted Australia's first Assyrtiko at our Lodge Hill Vineyard, a special and unique site treasured by my family and suited to this variety."

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
