Walter Hansel "South Slope Vineyard" Pinot Noir 2021
Named for the fruit farmer who planted half an acre of Chardonnay on a whim, this estate now farms one of Russian River Valley's most prized sites.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% clone 777 Pinot Noir from the South Slope Vineyard, located at the southern tip and highest elevation of the estate's vineyards in the Russian River Valley, California, USA.
Taste Profile: Medium ruby-purple in colour, with deep aromas of cranberries, blackberries and rhubarb accented by blood orange, pipe tobacco and forest floor. The palate is medium-bodied, both powerful and elegant, with concentrated, detailed flavours, a silky, fresh frame and a long, lifted finish.
Winemaking Process: Grapes are hand harvested and manually sorted, once in the vineyard and once in the winery. The Pinot Noir is destemmed and gravity guides whole berries into open-topped fermenters, with every vineyard block traced from harvest bin to barrel to settling tank before bottling, so each wine expresses its unique character without compromising freshness, finesse or texture.
Winemaker: Walter Hansel was a Sonoma County fruit farmer who planted a half acre of Chardonnay in the Russian River Valley in the 1970s simply out of love for wine. His son Stephen planted additional acres in the late 1980s and founded the winery in 1996, the same year his father passed away, releasing just 350 cases of Chardonnay and 70 cases of Pinot Noir in that first commercial vintage. Mentored in his early years by legendary Russian River grower Tom Rochioli, Stephen Hansel — who also owns several Sonoma County car dealerships, giving him the means to indulge his passion for winegrowing — has since grown the estate to more than 75 acres at the southern tip of the Russian River Valley near the Sebastopol Hills.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
