Rhône grapes grown on the Chinese side of the Great Wall — a rich, textural white from one of Hebei's most exciting new estates.
Grape Varietals & Region: A blend of Viognier (67%) and Roussanne (33%), sourced from the Donghuayuan vineyard in Zhangjiakou, Hebei province — a cool-climate pocket of northern China that Shofang's winemakers have been quietly proving can do more than the country's usual Cabernet-heavy reputation suggests. Shofang was founded in 2019 by Hu Shofang (who trained in Xi'an before completing vintages in Australia's McLaren Vale) and her partner Levi Lee (Adelaide-trained), who apply an Australian-honed, minimal-intervention approach to Chinese terroir most wineries around them have overlooked.
Taste Profile: Medium-bodied and rich without tipping into heavy — apricot, dried herbs and a distinct white pepper note, textured mid-palate, finishing dry. Built for richer white-wine occasions: roast chicken, cream sauces, or something with a bit of spice to match that pepper note.
Winemaking Process: Fermented and aged in used French oak, with six months on the lees to build texture and weight without picking up new oak flavour — a deliberately hands-off approach that lets the Donghuayuan fruit carry the wine.
Winemaker: Shofang Hu and Levi Lee met the way two wine-obsessed people from different sides of the world often do — through study and vintages in Australia — before deciding to bring that education home to Hebei. Shofang comes from a family whose vineyard fruit had always been sold off to industrial-scale wineries; rescuing that fruit for her own label, at a moment when neighbouring growers were ripping out vines for higher-yield crops, is very much the founding story of the estate.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
