Couvent Rouge Pet Nat Gold 2020
Lebanon's first pet-nat came from a winery built to give a war-torn valley something better to grow than cannabis.
Grape Varietals & Region: A blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Obaideh grown on the organic, elevated vineyards of Deir El Ahmar in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, roughly 1,100 metres above sea level. The site's Mediterranean-meets-semi-continental climate — cold, rainy winters and hot, dry summers — gives the fruit the acidity a pet-nat needs to stay lively.
Taste Profile: Brilliant yellow-gold in the glass, floral and ethereal on the nose with tupelo honey and lemon-blossom aromas that entice without overwhelming. Refreshing and citrusy on the palate — good with anything built around saffron.
Winemaking Process: Made by the ancestral method: a single fermentation started in tank and finished in bottle, left on its lees for months before disgorgement, with no filtration to strip out the wine's texture.
Winemaker: Couvent Rouge was founded in 2010 by growers Charbel El Fakhri and Walid Hobchy, built out of the Coteaux Heliopolis cooperative established in 1999 to give local Bekaa Valley farmers a legal, sustainable alternative to cannabis cultivation. This pet-nat, nicknamed LebNat internally, was the country's first — a fittingly experimental release from a winery whose whole existence is an experiment in turning a cannabis economy into a wine one.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
