Description

Savage Wines Follow the Line 2022

Grape Varietals & Region: Cinsault with 8% Syrah from Darling, South Africa. Planted in 1982 with the only marker of the vineyard is a telephone pole, hence follow the line to the fruit. 40 year old dry farmed bush vines on decomposed granite soils

Taste Profile: Follow the Line consistently reveals aromatic purity, featuring notes of strawberries, cherries, rose petals, and violets. The 2022 vintage not only embodies these characteristics but also introduces a nuanced texture and richness, a reflection of the warmer climate that year. The vines adeptly adapted to the challenges, resulting in an exceptionally complex wine that maintains the characteristic freshness attributed to granitic soils.

Winemaking Process: With utmost precision, grapes undergo meticulous sorting, a thorough process conducted both in the vineyard and winery. The rigorous selection was intensified in 2022, responding to the challenges posed by the extreme vintage. A discerning 20% of the fruit was discarded to guarantee the processing of only the finest bunches. The winemaking process includes a 50% whole bunch spontaneous fermentation, emphasizing gentle extraction and a two-week skin contact period. Following basket pressing, the wine ages for a year in older foudre, amphora, and seasoned 500L barrels before reaching the bottling stage
