Cape Blend
Cape Red Blends are South Africa’s unique take on classic European styles, often blending Bordeaux and Rhône varietals with the country's signature Pinotage for bold, structured, and complex wines.
Stylistic History & Terroir
South Africa has a long winemaking tradition dating back to the 17th century, but modern Cape Red Blends emerged as a premium category in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. These wines are produced across the Western Cape, particularly in regions like Stellenbosch, Paarl, Swartland, and Franschhoek.
The Cape’s Mediterranean climate, with warm, sunny days and cooling influences from the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, allows for ripe fruit expression with balanced acidity. Soils vary widely, with granite, sandstone, and shale contributing to the structure and minerality of these wines.
Cape Red Blends showcase South Africa’s winemaking innovation, blending Old World structure with New World boldness. Whether a refined Stellenbosch Bordeaux-style blend or a smoky, fruit-forward Pinotage-based wine, these blends offer world-class quality with exceptional value—perfect for pairing with grilled meats, braised dishes, or hearty stews
