A powerful, silky Cabernet Franc that might just convert the skeptics — made on one of South Africa's most exciting young estates.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Cabernet Franc from a single mountainside vineyard on the Gabriëlskloof property in the Bot River ward, Walker Bay, South Africa. The soil is a mix of Overberg Shale and Table Mountain Sandstone, and the vineyard's 15 years of age shows in the wine's depth and character.
Taste Profile: Unlike lighter, more aromatic Cabernet Franc, this ballsy South African is powerful and silky. A gorgeous mix of fruit and spice — dark plum, bright red cherries, woody forest floor, tobacco and cedar spice. Taut and savoury on the palate, with lively acidity, fine tannins and a grippy structure.
Winemaking Process: 90% of the crop was destemmed, with the remaining 10% left as whole clusters. Fermented wild and aged in 500L barrels for 18 months, with 30% new French oak.
Winemaker: Bernhard Heyns bought a canola farm near Bot River in 2001 and planted the estate's first vines the following year, releasing Gabriëlskloof's debut vintage in 2008. Winemaker Peter-Allan Finlayson — married to Heyns' daughter Nicolene, and known for his work at Crystallum — joined the cellar in 2014 and pushed the estate toward indigenous yeast, whole-bunch ferments and amphora ageing. He now works as Cellar Master alongside winemaker Anmar Van Niekerk, and the estate was named a First Growth in Tim Atkin's 2023 and 2024 South Africa reports.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
