Clemens Busch Riesling "vom roten Schiefer" 2023
Riesling from red slate, the entry point into a fifth-generation Mosel estate.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Riesling grown on the steep, red-slate soils ("roter Schiefer") of Germany's Mosel, one of three slate colours — red, grey and blue — the Busch family farms separately.
Taste Profile: An enticing bouquet of citrus fruit, white peach and floral notes, with pronounced minerality. Lively acidity and a textured mouthfeel, with juicy stone fruit, zesty lemon and the distinct character of red slate through a long, refreshing finish.
Winemaking Process: Farmed organically and biodynamically, hand-harvested at optimal ripeness and carefully sorted, then gently pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in large oak barrels, ageing on the lees for added complexity.
Winemaker: Clemens Busch is the fifth generation of winemakers named Clemens at this Mosel estate, which dates to 1663. He began working the family's 2-hectare vineyard in 1975 and, after inheriting it with his wife Rita in 1984, became one of the first winemakers in Germany to commit to organic viticulture, stopping herbicide use as early as 1976 — the estate has been certified biodynamic since 1986. Most of their fruit comes from the Pündericher Marienburg, where they now own 16 of the vineyard's 25 hectares, separating parcels by the colour of the underlying slate: red, grey and blue. Their son Johannes took over the estate in 2022.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
