Il Fitto, otherwise known as Podere Il Fitto, is a winery and farmhouse located in Cortona, Tuscany. Cortona is a hilltop town in the province of Arezzo, more than an hour outside of Florence. The company was founded in the early 1900s, but it was only in the '70s that the first vineyards conceived fruits suitable for winemaking. The vineyards were restructured in 2000 and a new cellar was built so that the entire winemaking process could occur at the place of harvest.
The property covers about 30 hectares, of which 15 ha are vineyards and 1 ha is a dedicated olive grove. The cultivated wines are mainly Syrah, as well as Sangiovese and other white grape varieties from which the Vinsanto DOC Cortona is born.
Traditional methods – with full respect for the environment and cycles of nature – are used to prune, thin and select the vines and grape bunches. The vineyards are situated at a splendid position amongst the gentle hills between Cortona and Montepulciano, with a mild and generous climate that is optimal for the cultivation of wine grapes.
