Garon is a family-run winery in Ampuis, in the heart of the Côte-Rôtie. The estate has been passed down from generation to generation, and currently brothers Kévin and Fabien stand at the helm.
The family’s name is one of the oldest in the region, dating back to 1475, but it wasn’t until 1982 that the Garon family started cultivating the neglected vines growing on their land. They released their first cuvée in 1995 and haven’t looked back.
Today, Kévin and Fabien farm around seven hectares. Their prime vineyards are in the Côte-Rôtie with three top Syrah cuvées coming from the granite soils of the Côte Blonde and one from the white schist soils of the Côte Brune. Although they are not yet certified organic, they work in that vein, and almost all the work in the vineyard is done by hand or by horse. Gentle extractions, long macerations and ageing in a mix of new and older French oak draw out the rich complexity of their wines.
The domaine offers a wide range of wines, from the generous Côtes du Rhône to the great vintages of Côte-Rôtie. They strive to transcribe elegance into the wines, to create something unforgettable that you will never tire of.
