A wine named for the Basque word for endurance, made from a 101-year-old field blend that has simply refused to disappear.
Grape Varietals & Region: A mixed plot of Tempranillo, Viura and Garnacha Blanca from a 101-year-old (planted 1919), 1-hectare vineyard in Elvillar, Rioja Alavesa, at 600 metres altitude on calcareous clay, yielding just 3,000 kg per hectare. "Iraun" is Oxer's tribute to the Basque people and their language, Euskera — the word means "to endure," and the label's Uroboros (a snake eating its own tail) is the emblem of eternity that goes with it.
Taste Profile: Concentrated aromas of ripe white peach and yellow plum, sweet spice, almond, fennel and yellow flowers. Crunchy and silky on the palate, with a long finish that shows stony minerality and a touch of smoke.
Winemaking Process: Alcoholic fermentation starts in stainless steel tanks using only indigenous yeast, then finishes in amphorae and used 600-litre French oak barrels. The wine ages a further 12 months in French oak and is bottled unfiltered.
Winemaker: Oxer Bastegieta built his reputation in Rioja Alavesa on exactly this kind of ancient, mixed-variety plot — investing in century-old vineyards like this one in Elvillar rather than replanting with single varieties. He works the vines with minimal intervention, following organic and regenerative principles, and even uses horses and mules in some plots to keep the old vines undisturbed.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
