Château Purcari Nocturne Rară Neagră 2021
Harvested in the cool of the night, from a grape variety whose name literally means "rare black."
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Rară Neagră, a native Moldovan variety, grown in estate vineyards close to the Black Sea. Purcari has been producing wine on this stretch of Moldovan coast since the estate's imperial-era founding in 1827, and Rară Neagră's low, thin-skinned yields are exactly the kind of native rarity the estate has kept alive rather than replacing with international varieties.
Taste Profile: Intense, bright ruby in colour. Pure aromas of sour red cherry and juicy red currant lead, with a touch of oak spice and black plum. The satin-textured palate reveals fine tannins and a relieving spicy sensation. Ageing potential of up to 10 years.
Winemaking Process: Grapes are hand harvested in the cool of the night to preserve the richness of the aromas and the intensity of the fruit, then hand-selected again before fermentation. The wine is made using traditional methods and ages 6 months in French oak barrique.
Winemaker: Nocturne is named for its harvest method, a practice Purcari has leaned into as it works to keep native Moldovan varieties like Rară Neagră relevant in a market crowded with international grapes. The estate's roots run back to 1827, when Russian Emperor Nicholas I recognised it by decree as Bessarabia's first specialised winery — a heritage the estate still trades on while continuing to experiment with techniques like night harvesting on its own indigenous grapes.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
