Description
Moschopolis 24 2019
Moschopolis 24 is the story of when Pinot Noir met Assyrtiko and they spent 24 months getting to know each other. Medium ruby colour. Delicate yet elegant nose of red berries, cherries, plums and hints of nutmeg, sweet tobacco, vanilla and liquorice spice. Clean palate that is medium-bodied, dry, with a concentrated cherry flavour supported by a luscious tannic structure and high acidity.
Ageing potential: 5–10 years.
95% Pinot Noir and 5% Assyrtiko. From a small 20-year-old vineyard in the mountainous Kastoria, in the heart of the Ursa Trail zone at an altitude of 950 metres. The vineyard is dominated by red soil with a high content of stone.
Handpicking of the harvest into small 15–20kg crates. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts. Long extraction to get the colour, structure, aromas and tannins that will last over time. The wine matures in very old large oak barrels for 12 months. After this, Assyrtiko wine lees are added and the wine matures with them for another 12 months in the barrel. So 24 months of ageing in total as its name implies. No filtering before bottling and with only minimal sulfites.
