Gut Hermannsberg Vom Schiefer Riesling Trocken 2023
The winery can look back on an eventful history. Founded at the beginning of the 20th century, it had a brilliant time as a state wine-growing domain from the 1960s to the 1980s and was undoubtedly one of Germany's top wineries. But the splendor and fame of the Royal Prussian wine-growing domain were soon lost. Only since Jens Reidel and Christine Dinse took over the estate in 2009, made Karsten Peter cellar master and estate manager and turned everything upside down, has the winery returned to its glory days - now under a new name: Gut Hermannsberg
Grape Varietals & Region:Â 100% VDP.Ortswein Riesling from Nahe, Germany. The fruit comes from their monopole vineyard of Niederhausen Hermannsberg, handpicked from 10-30 year old vines. The soils of the southern-facing Hermannsberg are shaped by the Ice Age, featuring clay slate bedrock overlaid with loess. Melaphyre was introduced into the vineyard over 100 years ago during mining activities.
Taste Profile: The wine presents itself with yellow fruit flavors, hints of ripe stone fruit, and a subtle spiciness. Thanks to its fine and well-integrated acidity structure, as well as the typical minerality of the slate soil, it is a less fruit forward Riesling that does particularly well with food
Winemaking Process:Â Selective harvesting by hand. Long maceration time of the crushed grapes, spontaneous fermentation and maturation for several months on the full yeast in steel tanks
