Domaine Philippe Gilbert Les 44 Rangs Rouge AOC
Domaine Philippe Gilbert is one of the top producers in Menetou-Salon, a lesser-known AOC that borders Sancerre. While obscure in comparison to its neighbor, Menetou-Salon has great terroirs; Gilbert's fantastic wines – some of the region's very best – are proof.
The domaine is equally adept at producing both mineral, fine-boned whites (Sauvignon Blanc) and silky, noble reds (Pinot Noir), both of which impress even at the entry-level domaine bottlings
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Pinot Noir from a 1.2 hectare parcel in Menetou-Salon called Champ Aloin. Planted in the 1960s, this parcel produces ripe & complex Pinot Noir.
The 44 Rangs is produced in vintages where the original parcel that produces the 35 Rangs needs to be supplemented with 9 rows of vines planted in the 1980s.
Taste Profile: An elegant masterpiece with fullness and freshness, as well as fresh red berries. Crisp and crunchy Pinot Noir, tight and focused. Delicate red fruits underscored by a pronounced baseline of wet earth and chalk.
Winemaking Process: The grapes undergo 20 days of skin maceration, followed by fermentation and storage for 18 months in used 600l barrels and cement tank
