Vincent Dureuil was voted France's Winemaker of the Year in 2019 — this is his village-level calling card from a family that's farmed Rully since the 13th century.
Grape varietal & region: 100% Chardonnay from Domaine Dureuil-Janthial in Rully, Côte Chalonnaise, Burgundy — drawn from four parcels (La Martelle, Chaponnière, La Bergerie and Le Meix Cadot) planted between 1949 and 2007. Rully sits at the northern end of the Côte Chalonnaise, sharing enough limestone-and-marl geology with its famous neighbours in the Côte de Beaune to make genuinely serious white Burgundy at a fraction of the price — a fact this domaine has spent thirty years proving. The Janthial family has farmed in Rully since the 13th century; Vincent Dureuil, who married into the name, took over in 1994 and has spent the decades since turning the estate into the appellation's reference point.
Taste profile: built for the cellar as much as the table — a long élevage gives it real ageing potential. Expect white orchard fruit and a mineral core, with a barrel-driven roundness underneath from a year spent in oak; the estate's own line on their whites is "superb minerality in spite of always harvesting at maximum ripeness," as good a summary as any of the balancing act Dureuil-Janthial pulls off across the range. Good with roast chicken, or a simple grilled white fish.
Winemaking process: handpicked and pressed directly, without crushing, then given a 48-hour static settling before going into barrel for fermentation (20% new oak). Each of the four parcels is vinified separately and only blended together just before bottling. From there it's 12 months in barrel, then a further 6 months in stainless steel tank to let things settle before bottling — timed, per house tradition, to the lunar calendar.
Winemaker: Vincent Dureuil took over what was then his wife Céline's family estate in 1994, and spent the following decades turning it into one of the most talked-about addresses in the Côte Chalonnaise — in 2019, La Revue du Vin de France named him Winemaker of the Year, and the same magazine has called him "the supreme reference for the Rully appellation." He's known for a hands-on, unhurried style — "un travail d'orfèvre," a goldsmith's work, as RVF put it in 2013 — practising what the French call viticulture paysanne, and insisting on greeting visitors to the domaine himself. Twenty-three cuvées come out of the estate's 20 hectares split across Rully, Puligny-Montrachet and Nuits-Saint-Georges, but Rully — the family's home turf for seven centuries — is still where the house style is clearest.

Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
