Craggy Range Gimblett Syrah 2023
A heritage 1840s Syrah clone, planted deep in Hawke's Bay's ancient dried riverbed.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Syrah from the Gimblett Gravels vineyard, planted on a centuries-old dried river bed in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. The vines grow in gravelly soils and descend from a heritage clone of Syrah brought to New Zealand in the 1840s.
Taste Profile: Very concentrated with an energetic feel. Dark burgundy colour with a vibrant purple hue; a distinct nose of lifted florals and pepper. Lush and elegant on the medium-to-full-bodied palate, with ripe tannins and an intensity born of a warm vintage, balancing savoury and fruity notes of olive tapenade, mulberries, spice and gamey character. Ageing potential of 7–12 years from vintage.
Winemaking Process: 11% whole bunch and 89% destemmed, fermented with indigenous yeasts in open-top stainless steel fermenters and open-top oak cuves.
Winemaker: Craggy Range was founded in 1997 by Terry Peabody and Master of Wine Steve Smith, who personally selected the Gimblett Gravels site and went on to found the Gimblett Gravels Winegrowers Association. Smith's work helped establish Gimblett Gravels as one of Hawke's Bay's, and New Zealand's, most respected terroirs for Syrah and Bordeaux varieties.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
