Description

Craggy Range Gimblett Syrah 2020

Grape varietal & region: 100% Syrah. The fruit comes from the Gimblett Gravels vineyard, planted on a centuries old dried river bed in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. The vines grow in gravelly soils and originate from a heritage clone of Syrah brought to New Zealand in the 1840s.

Craggy Range Gimblett Syrah is very concentrated and has an energetic feel! Dark burgundy colour with a vibrant purple hue. Distinct nose with lifted floral and pepper aromas. Lush and elegant, the medium to full-bodied palate has ripe tannins and an intensity resulting from a warm vintage. Balance of unique savoury and fruity flavours hallmarking olive tapenade, mulberries, spices and gamey notes.

Winemaking process: 11% whole bunch and 89% destemmed. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts in open-top stainless steel fermenters and open-top oak cuves.

Ageing potential: 7–12 years from vintage.
