Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Mencia from Bierzo, Spain. The fruit comes from centenary vines stock, coming from 3 different vineyards - Castro Viejo, Pedro Largo, Rogelio. The three plots are located on steep slopes and each contributes distinctive characteristics: fluidity, muscle and character.
Castro Viejo is located at an altitude of 620 meters, at the foot of the settlement, for its emblematic location and for the age of the vineyard. They are post-phylloxera vines stock, planted 90 years ago. Also because we were looking for very fresh, slow-ripening vineyards. The soil is very nutritious, clayey and rich in limestone.
Pedro Largo is s located on the east side of Mount Torullón, specifically in the area of San Salvador, at an altitude of 550 meters above sea level. The grape is more concentrated and is the one that provides muscle to the blend. The winegrower works it with his hands and takes care of the whole area, the land and nature with dedication. The 95 year old post-phylloxera vines stock are nourished by a sandy-loam soil, rich in limestone.
Rogelio is s located north of Orbanajo, in Vales, at an altitude of 620 meters above sea level. It’s the latest of the three vineyards, but very special. It gives character to the wine. Its post phylloxera vines stock are more than 100 years old. Its soil is clay-loam and rich in slate.
Taste Profile: Imalia 3 Parcelas reminds us of red fruit jam with small fresh notes of licorice and cardamom. The palate is smooth, with a marked persistence and a pleasant aftertaste that brings us back to the initial nose.
Winemaking Process: Each vineyard is vinified separately, and aged for 13 months in French barrels. The are then blended and bottled
Powerful modern reds with the ability to age. They tend to be very intense, with ripe fruit, firm tannins & drinkability either young or cellared.
They often have notes of forest floor, blackcurrant, mint & eucalyptus
