Gut Oggau Winifred 2023
Winifred comes from The Kids, and is described by the Gut Oggau family as -
Winifred brightens up our lives again. She does away with clichés and is proof that a rosé can be so much more than "just" a rosé. A colour is not just a colour. Pure wine from the terroir. At first she seems alive, only to reveal her depth and complexity. Her energy, her passion and her sensitivity let you see the world in a new light. Eating, drinking and living in harmony with the seasons. Making responsible decisions and finding the right balance. We can learn all of this from Winifred.
Grape Varietals & Region: A blend of Blaufrankisch & Zweigelt from Burgenland, Austria. The vines come from single plot of strains with different gravel and limestone terroirs. Vines that are mixed in the field with no pesticides or chemicals added
Taste Profile: An all year round rose that is smooth, juicy and full bodied. Consistenly dry, mineral with zippy acidity, it is herbacious and fruity, in just the right amount to be pretty much a perfect Rosé, with that right amount of bitterness. Nice minerality shining throughout, alongside bursts of strawberry, cranberry and a somewhat leafyness
Winemaking Process: There is no juice extraction during the red wine production as is so often the case. The must is fermented spontaneously in large wooden containers and is not fined, filtered or additionally sulphurised during the ageing process. Winifred is matured in large 500 litre oak barrels on the yeast for about 8 months (depending on the vintage).
