A Rheingau traditionalist who never gave up bottling the old way.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Riesling from the steep, slate-soil Wallufer Berg vineyard in the Rheingau, Germany — part of Hans-Josef Becker's 13-hectare Walkenberg holdings, a classified VDP.GROSSE LAGE® site planted 75% to Riesling and 25% Pinot Noir.
Taste Profile: A Kabinett picked at the earliest stage of ripeness for a light, crisp and refreshing style, balancing ripe fruit with refreshing acidity: notes of ripe peach, apricot and lemon zest, with a subtle minerality lingering on the finish.
Winemaking Process: Fermentation takes place largely in pressure tanks, after which the young wines are racked into traditional Rheingau Stückfässer, where they rest on their fine lees until bottling — often held back until immediately ahead of the next harvest, or longer, unlike most Rheingau producers who bottle young Rieslings quickly.
Winemaker: The winery is run by third-generation grower-winemaker Hans-Josef Becker, a committed traditionalist with no successor at present. He resisted the Rheingau's mass conversion to trocken styles, preserved old vines and massal selection over clones, and farmed organically for decades without ever advertising it. Annual production totals just 45,000 bottles, and the wines remain highly sought after by sommeliers and critics worldwide.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
