Hailed the most luxurious 100% Shiraz ever produced in South Africa — a maiden vintage of just 608 bottles that's since become De Toren's most exclusive release.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Shiraz, from De Toren's estate on the southern slopes of the Polkadraai Hills, Stellenbosch, South Africa. Grown from specially selected vines and nurtured with the same hand-manicuring and individual attention the estate applies to its Bordeaux blends, on ancient Polkadraai soils overlooking False Bay. The maiden 2012 vintage produced just 608 bottles; each vintage since has stayed within a tightly capped run of roughly 1,000–1,300 bottles.
Taste Profile: Deep red in colour, this opulent, full-bodied Shiraz carries intense fruit aromas layered with a mosaic of wood-derived spice. Those flavours carry through pronounced on the palate, framed by sweet spice, while fine-grained, velvety tannins knit into an exquisite, layered aftertaste — richer, bolder and more elegant with each vintage. Best paired with a succulent, tenderly grilled steak, decanted at least an hour before serving.
Winemaking Process: Fermented and aged in 200% new French oak — meaning the wine passes through two full cycles of new barrels — with an ageing potential of over 40 years. Every bottle is individually labelled and numbered by hand, and presented in a handcrafted black wooden case with its own key.
Winemaker: De Toren was founded in 1991, when Emil and Sonette den Dulk left Johannesburg for the Polkadraai Hills above False Bay, intending simply to make a fresh start on a wine farm. Working with academics from Stellenbosch University, Emil dug a dozen sampling holes per hectare — treble the industry standard — to map the property's soils before planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Malbec, the five Bordeaux varieties that built the estate's reputation. The name De Toren — "the tower" — refers to the gravity-fed cellar structure Emil designed to handle the fruit as gently as possible.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
