Haselgrove Catkin Shiraz 2020
Named for the cascading Hazel flowers the Celts believed marked the entrance to the Otherworld — a fittingly dramatic name for four McLaren Vale micro-climates in one glass.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Shiraz, blended from four parcels across distinct micro-climates in McLaren Vale, South Australia: Whites Valley for textural tannin and depth, McLaren Flat (surrounding the winery) for elegant, fine-tannin lift, Blewitt Springs for elegant red fruit and hints of menthol, and Aldinga for full-bodied dark fruit.
Taste Profile: Deep garnet in colour, with an intense, perfumed nose of red summer berries, dark cherry and plum, finished with integrated spicy French oak. Rich and full-flavoured yet elegant, with luscious fruit and quality oak giving structure and mouth-coating tannin without excessive weight.
Winemaking Process: Destemmed into open fermenters as whole berries, plunged three times daily for 12 days, then pressed to finish primary and undergo malolactic fermentation in barrel.
Winemaker: James Haselgrove made his first McLaren Vale wine in 1979, continuing a family trade started by his father Ron Haselgrove OBE. His son Nick, a Roseworthy-trained oenologist and the third generation in the business, won McLaren Vale's Bushing King title in 1993 with the 1992 Futures Shiraz. The winery was reborn as Nick Haselgrove Wines in 2016, and Catkin's multi-parcel approach reflects three generations of learning exactly which corners of McLaren Vale bring what to a blend.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
