One vineyard bathed in fog, one in full sun — blended for balance between ripeness and acidity.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Pinot Noir, blending fruit from the family's Annahala and Apple Barn vineyards in Anderson Valley, Mendocino County, California, where the cooling influence of the nearby Pacific gives ideal ripening conditions. Apple Barn Ranch, north of Boonville on the valley's east side, sees full sun exposure and gravelly soils for ripe, concentrated fruit, while Annahala, closer to the ocean, spends more time in the fog for a more delicate, nuanced expression.
Taste Profile: Aromas of sweet black cherry, raspberry, rose petal and violet lead into a fresh palate of raspberry and strawberry. Round, silky tannins support the bright fruit, with a touch of minerality over a smooth finish.
Winemaking Process: Grapes are harvested at night to preserve freshness and acidity, then hand-sorted, destemmed and cold-soaked separately by vineyard block to extract colour and flavour ahead of native fermentation. 20% of the wine ferments with its stems for spicy complexity, with cultured yeast added to finish. The free-run wine ages in French oak, 35% new, with individual lots blended within three months of harvest and the finished blend aged 10 months in barrel.
Winemaker: Cakebread Cellars was founded in 1973 by Jack and Dolores Cakebread, who met in high school in Oakland and married in 1950. Jack, then running his father's car repair business and moonlighting as a photographer who'd studied under Ansel Adams, was in Napa Valley in 1972 shooting a coffee-table book on American wine when he made a casual offer to buy a friend's 22-acre Rutherford ranch — using his $2,500 photography advance as the down payment. The couple spent evenings and weekends planting vines, selling 157 cases of their first wine, a 1973 Chardonnay, the following year. The winery remains family-run today under sons Bruce and Dennis Cakebread.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
