Cakebread Cellars Chardonnay Reserve 2021
Built from more than a dozen Chardonnay clones planted across four estate vineyards on a single low ridge.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Chardonnay, from four estate vineyards on a low ridge in the Carneros appellation, southern Napa Valley, California, planted with over a dozen distinct Chardonnay clones. The cool, windswept, loamy conditions here allow an extended growing season, letting grapes ripen slowly with high acidity and fine balance; each vintage, the best lots from these plantings are selected and blended into the Reserve.
Taste Profile: Aromas of creamy golden apple, peach and baking spice lead into intense, concentrated flavours of sweet apple, melon and pear. A balanced, fresh wine with acidity that makes it easy to pair with food.
Winemaking Process: Grapes are harvested at night in small batches while still cool, then pressed as whole clusters and fermented by individual lots in French oak, 36% with native yeast. The wine ages 15 months in French oak, 35% new, with lees stirring to build texture, before the individual lots are blended and returned to barrel to harmonise.
Winemaker: Cakebread Cellars was founded in 1973 by Jack and Dolores Cakebread, who met in high school in Oakland and married in 1950. Jack, then running his father's car repair business and moonlighting as a photographer who'd studied under Ansel Adams, was in Napa Valley in 1972 shooting a coffee-table book on American wine when he made a casual offer to buy a friend's 22-acre Rutherford ranch — using his $2,500 photography advance as the down payment. The couple spent evenings and weekends planting vines, selling 157 cases of their first wine, a 1973 Chardonnay, the following year. The winery remains family-run today under sons Bruce and Dennis Cakebread.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
