Geyerhof Ried Steinleithn 1er Cru Grüner Veltliner 2021
One of the oldest Premier Cru sites in Kremstal, named for the bare rock its vines have to fight through.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Grüner Veltliner from Geyerhof's Ried Steinleithn vineyard, among the oldest Premier Cru-level sites in the region. Southwest-facing at 280 metres altitude, the vineyard has only a thin layer of topsoil over bare granulite rock — "Stein" means "rock" or "stone" in the site's name. That cool location and poor, rocky soil push the vines toward austere, elegant, linear wines with real cellaring potential, helped along by late harvesting and low yields.
Taste Profile: Linear and tight, with complexity galore and ripe fruity notes. Fresh apricot on the nose, with delicate candied orange, blossom honey and an expressive herbaceousness in the background. Perfect poise with a linear drive on the full-bodied palate — a vibrant acidic core supports its leesy texture, saline backbone and juicy flavours of orange citrus, quince, kiwi and honey. Extraordinary ageing potential; drink until 2030.
Winemaking Process: Manual harvesting of the fruit in small boxes at the start of November, followed by whole-bunch pressing. Slow fermentation in stainless steel tanks, with ageing on full lees for 19 months. Vegan.
Winemaker: Geyerhof is run by winemaker Ilse Maier, who took over her family's Kremstal estate and converted it to organic and biodynamic farming. She works the poor, rocky granulite soils of single sites like Steinleithn and Kirchensteig with a light touch, favouring late harvesting, low yields and long lees ageing over intervention — an approach that's made Geyerhof one of the region's most respected names for terroir-driven Grüner Veltliner and Riesling.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
