A sleek, polished Syrah built to give true expression to the Swartland's Shale, Schist and Granite terroirs.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Syrah from seven sustainably farmed parcels across the Swartland, South Africa — four in the stony shale and schist of the Kasteelberg, two in dry-land bush vines on the decomposed granite of the Paardeberg, and one on the iron-rich soils west of Malmesbury. Vines range from 22 to 30 years old.
Taste Profile: Perfumed, with notes of spicy citrus rind, refined black fruit, violets and lily. Elegant and restrained on the palate, with a silky texture balanced by fresh, natural acidity and a long finish of supple tannins — a sleek, polished expression of premium Syrah.
Winemaking Process: Each parcel is chilled, then 90% added as whole bunches to tank with the rest destemmed. Pigeaged daily before fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts below 28°C, lasting 7 to 10 days with 3 to 7 weeks of skin contact depending on tannin development. Pressed to barrel for malolactic fermentation, then aged 11 months across 225 and 500-litre French oak barrels (15% new) and a 2,000-litre foudre, before bottling unfiltered and unfined with minimal sulphur.
Winemaker: Mullineux was founded in 2007 when Chris — a Cape Town native — and Andrea Mullineux, originally from Northern California, staked their belief that the ancient granite and schist soils of the Swartland could produce world-class wine. Andrea, who studied viticulture and oenology at UC Davis, met Chris at a wine festival in Champagne before the pair returned to South Africa to build the estate from scratch; in 2013 they partnered with Analjit Singh of the Leeu Collection to become Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines, adding the Leeu Passant project in Franschhoek. The partnership has since earned Mullineux South African Winery of the Year an unprecedented five times.

We hate the disappointment of opening an off-drinking bottle of wine – as much as a kid seeing their scoop of ice cream fall to the ground (Yes, it hurts).
Simply contact us within 7 days of receiving your wines to let us know why you’re not satisfied and drop off the remaining unused wines back to us. The bottle will have to be at least 3/4 full and the same wine the bottle is in (duh).
Once we verify that the the wine was corked or damaged, we will process the refund.
